Try picking out a good childhood memory or any other nice thing to remember. It is a good way to treat panic disorder. A little practice of this method can help control many bouts.
If you are at home during a panic attack, then you may want to close your eyes and lie down on the bed immediately. If needed, you may also play some smoothing music so that it calms your senses. Mild or soft music has tremendous effect on the human brain and can be very helpful in soothing the symptoms of panic attacks. As the doctors may advise, you may have to make few changes to your current lifestyle. If you are consuming a lot of coffee, then you may have to reduce its intake or stop consuming it completely.
It is helpful if the patient is open about his symptoms and problems with his friends and family. If they all know the truth about the patient they become more helpful to the patient. If the patient takes in alcohol, his consumption must be controlled. If he takes any other drugs, that intake must be ceased as well. Coffee, drugs, alcohol - life can be healthier without them.
Several counseling centers exist which disseminate information regarding anxiety or panic attacks. The personnel present there can help you find the working and side effects of common anxiety attack medications. Also present are the support groups for the patients to share their experiences.
Anxiety medications bring symptomatic relief against anxiety disorders - they cannot cure the root cause. Also, several of these medicines are habit forming and hence not so safe.
